SEN Teaching Assistant (Secondary)
Location: Portsmouth
Salary: £12.82 - £14.72 per hour
Start date: ASAP

GSL Education are looking for a committed and caring SEN Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated team at a secondary school in Portsmouth.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide vital support to students, helping them to achieve their full potential in both academic and personal development.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 or small group support to students with special educational needs.
  • Assist teachers in adapting lessons and resources to meet the needs of students.
  • Support students in managing their behaviour, emotional, and social development.
  • Help students with personal care or mobility if required.
  • Encourage students to engage in learning activities and build their self-confidence.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, working closely with the SENCO and teaching staff.
  • Build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all students.

Requirements:

  • Experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant or in a similar role within a secondary school setting.
  • A relevant qualification, such as CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ, or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for working with young people.
  • A strong understanding of the needs of students with SEN, including autism, ADHD, and other learning difficulties.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection practices.
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
