Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant (Primary)
Location: Portsmouth
Salary: £12.82 - £14.72 per hour
Start date: ASAP

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to join a dynamic team at an SEN primary school in Portsmouth. As a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in helping children with special educational needs (SEN) thrive in their learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 or group support to children with behavioural and emotional needs.
  • Assist the class teacher in implementing individualised behaviour plans.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and manage challenging situations calmly.
  • Support the academic and social development of pupils with SEN.
  • Create a safe and supportive classroom environment.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
  • Help pupils engage in activities and build their confidence.
  • Work alongside the SENCO to track progress and report on behaviour improvements.

Requirements:

  • Experience working as a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant or in a similar role in an SEN or primary school.
  • A relevant qualification, such as CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ, or equivalent.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, resilience, and a positive attitude.
  • A passion for working with children with special educational needs.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Must hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
