Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant (Secondary)

Location: Portsmouth
Salary: £83.33 - £90.00 per day
Start Date: ASAP

GSL Education are looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant (Special Educational Needs) to join a secondary school in Portsmouth. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a supportive environment and help students with special educational needs thrive.

For the SEN Teaching Assistant role, you will support KS3 and KS4 students with special educational needs, helping them overcome learning barriers and reach their full potential. You will collaborate with teachers to plan and deliver customized learning activities, create a positive learning environment, and aid students in developing social skills, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour.

SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and group support to students with special educational needs.
  • Assist the classroom teacher in planning and delivering tailored learning activities.
  • Help to create a safe, nurturing, and positive learning environment.
  • Support students in developing social skills, emotional regulation, and positive behavior as an SEN Teaching Assistant.
  • Monitor and record students’ progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Foster strong relationships with students, encouraging their confidence and self-esteem.

SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant or in a similar role in a secondary school.
  • Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ.
  • A strong understanding of special educational needs and child development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with students and staff.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
