Behaviour Support Assistant – Fareham, Hampshire

GSL Education are looking for a proactive Behaviour Support Assistant to join a secondary school in Fareham. This full-time role offers a competitive salary between £30,000 and £50,000 per year, with a permanent contract available after a successful probation period. The position starts from Easter 2025 or September 2025, and the school welcomes applications from individuals with experience in behaviour support, youth work, or transferable skills.
Responsibilities of the Behaviour Support Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties.
- Implement behaviour management strategies to encourage positive student engagement.
- Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and pastoral teams to create a supportive learning environment.
- Offer mentoring and guidance to students, promoting resilience, self-regulation, and confidence.
- Manage challenging situations effectively and support students in overcoming barriers to learning.
- Help to foster an inclusive and structured atmosphere, ensuring every student feels valued.
Requirements of the Behaviour Support Assistant:
- Previous experience in behaviour support, youth work, mentoring, SEN, or a related field is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students and staff.
- A calm, empathetic, and patient approach to supporting students with complex needs.
- The ability to remain resilient and adapt strategies to different situations.
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
- Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
