Aspiring Art Therapist - Primary Schools (1:1 with Special Needs Children)

Job Overview:
GSL Education Kent is seeking an Aspiring Art Therapist to join its warm and inclusive team, working 1:1 with primary school children who have special educational needs. This role provides an invaluable opportunity for a recent graduate or someone pursuing a career in art therapy to gain hands-on experience in a supportive educational environment. The successful candidate will work alongside certified art therapists, educators, and SEND professionals, gaining practical experience in working with special needs children and understanding how creative interventions can support their development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to children with SEND, helping them engage and participate fully in the school environment.
  • Assist in delivering personalised support plans under the guidance of the school's SEND coordinators and teachers.
  • Collaborate with teachers and SEND professionals to tailor educational and support strategies to each child's specific needs.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for children to thrive.
  • Document and report student progress, sharing insights with the therapy team and school staff.
  • Prepare and maintain creative resources and therapy spaces.
  • Support the school's creative arts initiatives and events.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Art Therapy, Psychology, Fine Arts, or a related field.
  • Strong artistic skills and knowledge of various artistic mediums.
  • Prior experience working with children, particularly those with special educational needs.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to build rapport with children.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive and able to work independently and as part of a team.
