SEN Teaching Assistant

Salary Scale: £95 to £110 per day

About the Role:

GSL Education is currently seeking to appoint a qualified and enthusiastic SEN Teaching assistant to undertake a position at one of our client schools in Sheffield. Teaching Assistants working with students with special educational needs and mental health needs in schools play a vital role in creating inclusive and supportive learning environments, promoting the well-being and academic success of all students. Role of a Teaching Assistance:

  • Teaching assistance provides tailored support to students with special educational needs and mental health concerns. They work closely with teachers and other professionals to implement strategies outlined in education, health, and care plans. This may include assisting with specific interventions, accommodations, and therapies designed to support students' learning and well-being.
  • TAs offer emotional support to students with mental health needs, helping them manage emotions, develop coping strategies, and build resilience. They provide a supportive and nurturing environment where students feel valued, understood, and encouraged to express themselves.
  • In situations where students experience mental health crises or emotional distress, TAs may provide immediate support and assistance. They follow established protocols for crisis intervention, ensuring the safety and well-being of students while seeking appropriate professional help and support.
  • TAs engage in ongoing professional development to enhance their knowledge and skills in supporting students with special educational needs and mental health concerns. They may receive training in areas such as autism awareness, mental health first aid, trauma-informed practice, and behavior management strategies.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have previous experience working as a Teaching assistance within a SEN educational setting.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Demonstrate empathy, patience, and resilience when working with students facing academic or behavioral challenges.
  • Hold relevant qualifications or training in education, childcare, or a related field.
  • Are passionate about supporting the learning and development of student and making a positive difference in their lives.
